Statement from Chip, June 2017- “Upon My Release”

Upon My Release
I will welcome the warm frequent cuddle of my grandchildren, to lift and hug them, to return their smiles and have inside of me, the powerful words to soothe and help heal the scrapes from occasional somersaults
I will witness numerous bird species, with their orchestrated songs, and I’ll hope for a rain to nourish the vegetables and flowers I planted the days before, just as mother use to do, and to reach for a rainbow whose colors stretch across the sky, after the rain and mist has fragranced my face.
I will experience the waves of the ocean reflecting the moon filled sky that reveal fascinating fish, sensing the cozy breeze and graceful winds, rousing the debris from numerous places upon my skin, guiding my body into a soothing state in a comforting bed that allows my age filled bones to expand in ways lost for most of my life, reaching into the soft covers, and sinking my head into a fluffy pillow’s embrace.
I will have my eyes dazzled by the spectrum of radiant colors that only a city can sparkle, enjoying the sights from a car window, recognizing the aroma of the city’s possessions all converging together.
I will so affectionately exchange the touch of a lover’s hand, to massage each other’s feet, to polish the joys and hardships of a life together, lifting each other’s hearts as equals to face a brighter tomorrow.
I will continue to appreciate the love and challenges of family, making myself a part of the dialogue regarding our community and country’s direction, to have social interaction forwarding unplanned acts of love and compassion, demonstrating a belief in the transformation of others, casting my vote for the youth and my elderly future.
I will always give special devotion to finding peace and moving full speed to overcome the damaging impact associated with the daily screams of terror and absence of dignity that engulf my prison environment.
Most of all, I am dedicated to the journey and opportunity of spending my remaining life, giving of myself to achieve the many treasures of what it means to be a valued human being.
